It's time to start planning for our trip to Southern Utah! This is absolutely one of my most favorite tours: and for 60 lucky cyclists I hope it will be one of yours! Many happy memories and funny stories after 16 trips here.
We start the tour in St. George (the winter home for B. Young) and head up to Zion National Park. It will be hot in St. George: about 100* and up! Zion is amazing: majestic & towering cliffs & the Virgin River. The hike up the river is gorgeous and if you're not afraid of heights the hike to Angel's Landing is supposed to be breathtaking. (I'm not one for heights so I'll take someone elses word for it!)
Cycling up the switchbacks the 2cnd day to the tunnel is a great ride and hopefully there will be no headwind into Hatch! Not so funny story about the tunnel: a couple of years ago the ranger at the bottome cleared me to take my big yellow truck up there: said I had clearance to go through: the ranger at the top didn't agree: I had to turn the beast around on the narrow little road with a cliff on one side and a wall on the other: I cried all the way down.
Hatch is a funny little blip in the road: don't blink. But the next day we're on to Bryce Canyon. Take advantage once again of the hikes! The ride up to Bryce Point is great too. Then on to Panguitch (translation: big fish) and over Cedar Breaks and DOWN to Cedar City. Remember: I made it up Cedar Breaks on my bike: so can you!
We start the tour June 13th: so stay tuned for a day to day and we'll see what I can come up with to feed this tribe!
